A/Prof Gabrielle Cehic AM
A/Prof Gabrielle Cehic AM graduated from the University of Adelaide in 1989 with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). She then went on to complete fellowships in Oncology (FRACP) and Nuclear Medicine (FRAANMS).
Her principal area of clinical interest is Therapeutic Nuclear Medicine, especially focused on the Management of Thyroid disease, Neuroendocrine tumours (NETs) as well as Survivorship and Quality of Life
Gabrielle established the state-wide referral and therapy service for PRRT in South Australia 2009, and continues as Director of this service, based at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Adelaide, South Australia. The service supports an annual Nuclear Therapy Fellow and NET nurse and strives to ensure equitable access for rural and remote patients in both SA and NT.
She is the inaugural and current Chair of the monthly South Australian Neuroendocrine Tumour Multidisciplinary Meeting (NET MDM).
Gabrielle was honoured and humbled to be awarded the Member of The Order of Australia ( AM) at the 2020 Queen’s birthday Awards for significant service to medicine, nuclear oncology and to professional groups.
She was a key member of the working party to develop the South Australian Gastroenteropancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumours Pathway in 2013, and the Clinical Oncology Society of Australia NET guidelines (2008 and updated 2022).
Gabrielle is a member of the Commonwealth Neuroendocrine Tumour Collaboration (CommNETS) Peptide Receptor radionuclide Therapy (PRRT) Working Group – a collaboration between Australia, New Zealand and Canada – with a particular interest in quality of life (QOL) in patients with neuroendocrine tumours having received PRRT.
Gabrielle holds the title of Adjunct Associate Professor at University of South Australia
She is passionate about teaching the next generation of health care professionals and is actively involved in curriculum development and teaching at many levels. Currently, her teaching involves dedicated lectures at University of South Australia, and weekly tutorials to technologists, medical students, and registrars within in the Nuclear Medicine Department, hospital based Grand rounds and a broad range of local and National seminars. She was Co-Convenor of the 2019 ANZSNM Annual Scientific meeting and is a regular attendee and presenter at both Oncology and Nuclear medicine educational and Scientific meetings. She regularly reviews and contributes to peer-reviewed journals.
She values the involvement and collaboration of patients and consumer Advisory groups in guiding clinical research and continues to work closely with NECA (NeuroEndocrine Cancer Australia), Cancer Council (Australia and South Australia) and THRF- The South Australian based Hospital Research Foundation .
She is excited to be involved in future developments of Molecular Imaging and Therapy and is looking forward to working with her fellow colleagues on the AANMS Theranostics Committee.
